What To Know About Crypto
What is Crypto?

Bitcoin, Ethereum, Doge, etc...

Crypto is short for cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency is a digital form of money that can be exchanged online for goods and services. You have definitely heard of it before. Bitcoin, Ethereum. Dogecoin... those are all different types of cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency works using a technology called blockchain. Blockchain is a decentralized technology spread across many computers that manages and records transactions. Part of the appeal of this technology is its security. Unlike fiat currency(US dollar, Euro, etc) there is no central authority that manages and maintains the value of a cryptocurrency. Instead, these tasks are broadly distributed among a cryptocurrency's users via the internet.
How Do I Get it?

Coinbase, CashApp, etc.

Ok..now that you know what it is...let's talk about how you get it.
Coinbase is one of the better known platforms to obtain crypto. You can purchase a number of different coins on there with your credit or debit card.
Coinbase and CashApp are the easiest and fastest ways to get into crypto.

CashApp ,on the other hand, at the moment only allows the purchase of Bitcoin. Bitcoin is currently the most widely recognized and accepted cryptocurrency. For your entrance into cryptocurrency, you can use either. Use your credit or debit card on either platform.

Secure your Coins

Let's Talk About Wallets

If you're going to get some crypto, you're going to need a wallet. A wallet is a digital address where you store your coins, tokens, and collectibles(NFTs). When you purchase cryptocurrency on an exchange such as Coinbase, you should think of it as they are giving you a wallet/address to borrow. It's safer to think that way because it will make you constantly remain the manager of your funds.  You never want to keep your funds on the exchange. Its their platform and at any time they can block your access and you are stuck. I'm speaking from experience. So make sure you get your own wallet.
Hot Wallets are either on your phone or computer. Cold wallets are a hardware about the size of a flash drive.

There are two categories of wallets, Hot & Cold.  Hot wallets are phone or computer applications like Exodus, Trust Wallet and Atomic Wallet.  Cold wallets are a physical piece of hardware like a Ledger Nano or A Trezor. The physical size ranges from a little bigger than a credit card to a usb flash drive. There are many of them, those are just a few. Do your research and find one that you are comfortable with.

Make Sure You Write Down and Protect Your Recovery Phrase
When you first set up any good wallet, you will be given a recovery phrase that is the key back to your money should you ever lose access to it from a lost device or forgotten password.

Each wallet comes with a very specific back up phrase that consist of 12-24 random words in a specific order. You need to write this down exactly how they give it to you and put it away somewhere safe. If for any reason you lose your password, this phrase will help you recover your lost wallet. Without it, everything is gone forever…foreverever.

And Now.... NFTs

This is what brought you here in the first place.

Do you remember what NFTs are? The Non-Fungible tokens. If you followed the earlier advice and information, you should be almost ready to make a purchase. You'll only need one more thing, a MetaMask.

MetaMask is another wallet based on the Ethereum platform and is compatible with almost all NFT marketplaces. Not only does it allow you to hold Ethereum based coins in the wallet but it also allows you to store your NFT Art & Collectibles. You can download it as an app on your phone or as a web browser add-on or extension on your computer.

MetaMask App(iPhone)

MetaMask App(Android)

MetaMask Browser Add-on(Google Chrome)

MetaMask Browser Add-on(Firefox)

There are a number of NFT Marketplaces. Two of the most notable are Open Sea and rarible. You can see the Grown Fresh NYC profile on both platforms

Don't just check us out though, check out all the artists. The talent is endless. However, just like any other marketplace, be safe. Some people are on there just to ride the wave. Keep your third eye open.
